The view from the top of Rio de Janiero’s Sugarloaf Mountain, known locally as Pão de Açúcar, is an indelible memory of my childhood. A birds-eye-view of Copacabana, the Christ Statue, an eclectic mix of colorful art deco and contemporary houses with beautifully landscaped gardens terraced around the turquoise waters of Guanabara Bay are iconic memories that inspired me to weave this sculpture. As a child, (and even now) I sit and dream of the spirits and wonders of these mountains that are so noble and serene. I wove this sculpture as my ode to Pão de Açúcar with different interesting pieces of bittersweet vines interwoven and entwined with pieces with brown, tan, chestnut and chocolate hand dyed reeds.
